RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

---Identify and secure intellectual property protection in the United States and overseas

---Enhance company's Biotech business by providing legal counsel on freedom to operate

---Act as liaison with outside law firms

---File and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications

---Manage license-in technology from universities and companies and coordinate with licensor's attorneys to secure patents.

---Advise clients through participation in various levels of R&D meetings and answer general questions regarding intellectual property

---Conduct educational client seminars and courses on intellectual property

---Analyze patents and prepare infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions

---Review scientific papers or posters prior to submission for publication and monitor intellectual property activities of third parties in various subject matter areas.

PROFILE:

 

---BS (Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology). An advanced degree is desirable.

---JD

---Admission to a State bar and to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

---3+ years of experience with a law firm and/or corporation in the following areas: preparation and prosecution of US and foreign patents, preparation of infringement, validity, freedom-to-operate opinions and client counseling.

---Excellent written and verbal communication skills ---Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and at different levels in the company (i.e., staff scientists, group directors, Vice Presidents, etc.)

---Ability to juggle priorities and deadlines.
